Critical Reflection

1)                                Module Learning At the start of the module, I have mentioned that I face difficulties in engaging the audience during presentations and I want to improve on my presentation skills. As such, I requested to be the speaker on my team so that I can practice my presentation skill at the same time. Through weeks of presenting and pitching. The effective communication module has help me to a better presenter. Professor Blackstone has help to identify some of my bad habits during presentation such as fidgeting motion and insufficient of eye contact with the audience. I will take note of this pointers and try to improve on my future presentations. Before effective communication module, I did not know the proper way of citing and paraphrasing. Initially, I feel that citing was not needed as it is a hassle. But after going through this module, have learnt that it is the proper way of writing as it shows that I have done my research before writing .Through thi

Choi, J. W., Yim, D. H., & Cho, S. H. (2017). People counting based on an IR-UWB radar sensor.  IEEE Sensors Journal ,  17 (17), 5717-5727. https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/abstract/document/7968432 In this article, Choi , Yim and Cho (2017) focus on the application of the people counting sensor using an impulse radio ultra-wideband radar sensor. As of now, lots of people counting sensor has been research but most of them are using image based. Image based people counting sensor has a disadvantage in terms of privacy. But by using people counting sensor using an impulse radio ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) radar sensor, privacy is not a concern as image of occupants is not used. “This enables people counting even in places where privacy is important, such as hotels or private property” The IR-UWB is a technique that uses an impulse signal with a very short duration in the time domain, which occupies a wideband in the frequency domain. The IR-UWB radar gives out impulse signal to detect p

In the article “ IoT based Smart Parking Systems for Smart Cities”, hiOTron.com (n.d), it claims that it is crucial to create an automated smart parking management system. It was supported by recent research that, “30% of the traffic in urban areas is generated by drivers and motorists looking for parking spaces”. Smart Parking uses sensors instruments to identify the occupancy of the parking lots, and designed to transmit scanned data to the database in real-time. Hence drivers will be able to identify if there is an available parking slot through the app. It can be adopted in most urban parking spaces and managed by a programmable logic controller (PLC). However, it states that there will be many challenges such as high upfront costs, enforcement and inconvenience for tourists. Still, the benefits such as improved traffic and reduced management cost are worth the challenge. Despite challenges such as connection issue, smart parking system is beneficial in order to reduce traffic jams

Assignment 1 - Formal Email

Dear Professor Blackstone, My name is Tobias Hanputra, a student from your effective communication class. I have graduated from Temasek Polytechnic with a diploma in Green building and sustainability back in year 2018. As a child, I spent most of my time playing video games. One of my favorite video games is Minecraft. It is a game where you must acquire the available resources to build creative structures based on your imagination. I have always been curious on what it takes to design and build a building, leading to my interest in Sustainable infrastructure engineering (Building services) course. One of my strength is that I convey a strong sense of confidence in myself at all times. Confidence is one of the key aspects in communication as it allows you to be able to speak concisely with others, allowing the other parties to develop faith and trust in what you said and promised. Despite being confident, I tend to speak in a monotone voice when communicating with others, and d
